… which deprive people of
adequate housing and livelihood
lead to a loss of self-respect and to
an existence which becomes
meaningless.
Those who feel they
have no place in society will resort to
whatever form of oblivion — ie drugs —
rescues them even momentarily from
this loss of meaning, identity and
purpose.

‘meaning’ must be restored. For this to
happen, it is necessary for the person
to experience himself differently, to
experience a sense of his own worth.
Once that happens, he can grow in
self-awareness.
